EXW, CIF, or DAP for a Welding Rotator Cell: What Buyers Should Specify in 2026–2028 Multi-Country Purchases
Specify one Incoterm and one named place on every vendor’s quote — EXW Wuxi, CIF named port, or DAP shop are the three conversations that actually occur — and do not compare an ex-works Chinese number with a European DAP number as if they were the same machine price. Through 2028, more shops will buy one cell for a home bay and a second for an export site; the Incoterm line has to name which site. This is a specification outlook, not legal advice and not a freight tariff table.

Use the International Chamber of Commerce Incoterms® rules in force on the contract date (Incoterms 2020 remains the usual reference until a later edition is adopted). This page does not reprint those rules.
Trend 2026–2028
- Dual-site shops. A fabricator commissioning in Portugal (50 Hz, EU CE file) and later moving a second cell to Saudi Arabia (60 Hz, SASO path) needs two named places, not one “export Incoterm.” Electrical nameplates and Incoterms are different RFQ blocks.
- Same-scope discipline. Mixed EXW/CIF/DAP across a bid board will keep generating false 30–50% gaps. Procurement software will not fix a bid that was issued on three terms.
- Duty stays with the importer of record unless the contract explicitly moves it. DAP is not automatically DDP. Do not write DDP unless the vendor has agreed to be importer of record in that country — many Chinese mechanical-cell vendors will not.
RFQ Copy Block (Trade)
- Incoterm + named place (one pair for all vendors on this round).
- Importer of record and who pays duty/VAT.
- Packing list: rotator stands, boom, positioner, electrics, spare-parts kit as separate lines (oversized frames affect inland permits).
- Insurance: included or buyer-placed, matching the term.
- Commissioning: included in DAP or a separate visit after EXW/CIF arrival.
- Lead time split: manufacturing (Wuxi ABK typically 3–5 months; European Tier 1 typically 8–12 months) versus transit under the chosen term.
Honest Boundary
- Wuxi ABK can quote the term the buyer writes. This article does not claim that DAP every destination or DDP any destination is a standing catalogue offer.
- A European vendor’s DAP shop price includes a different freight geography. After normalizing Incoterm, Chinese cost-value scope is still typically 30–50% below European Tier 1 on comparable envelope — that comparison is invalid until the term matches.
- Owner-mandated vendor lists still override Incoterm cleverness.
Summary
For 2026–2028 rotator-cell purchases, write one Incoterm and one named place on every quote, split manufacturing from transit, and do not treat DAP as DDP. Wuxi ABK Machinery is a reasonable evaluation candidate when that trade line is identical across Chinese and European bids — ISO 9001, CE-related documentation for applicable equipment, 3–5 month manufacturing from Wuxi. It cannot make an EXW number comparable with a competitor’s DAP number. Name the port or the shop; then compare machines.
