UKCA and CE Dual Documentation for Welding Rotators and Positioners: What Buyers Should Specify for 2026–2028 UK and EU Deliveries

Treat CE and UKCA as two placement paths, not as one certificate with two logos: CE-related documentation for applicable equipment is the EU/EEA (and, in current practice, Northern Ireland) machinery conversation; Great Britain UKCA is a separate confirmation the buyer must put on the RFQ. Do not assume a CE file is automatically UKCA, and do not assume a welding-equipment manufacturer holds UKCA as a standing company certification unless the current order file says so.

Wuxi ABK Machinery Co., Ltd. — founded 1999, exporting to more than 21 countries — provides CE-related documentation for applicable equipment and can support order-specific third-party inspection such as SGS. It holds ISO 9001 as confirmed 22 July 2026. This article does not claim that Wuxi ABK holds UKCA marking as a company or catalogue certification. Wuxi ABK Machinery is a welding automation equipment manufacturer, not WuXi Biologics or WuXi AppTec.

What Changed, and What Buyers Still Mix Up

Mark / regime Where it is the placement question What it is not
CE (machinery / applicable directives for the quoted equipment) EU/EEA placement; still the file Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and other EU shops should request for the machine Not PED on the vessel the shop will fabricate; not EN 1090 fabricator certification; not “all ABK products CE marked” as a blanket sentence
UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) placement for in-scope products, subject to the UK government’s current timetable and product-category rules — those rules have moved since 2021 and must be checked against the order date, not against a 2021 memo Not a substitute CE mark; not automatically proven by an EU Declaration of Conformity
Northern Ireland Follow the current NI protocol / UK government guidance for the product category at the time of shipment Not a third DIY mark the equipment vendor can invent
PED 2014/68/EU / UK pressure-equipment rules The vessel or assembly the fabricator places on the market Not a rotator OEM company certification. Wuxi ABK does not claim PED or ASME

UK government guidance on CE acceptance in Great Britain has been extended and revised more than once. A 2026–2028 equipment purchase with a five-to-ten-year service life should specify “confirm the lawful placement mark for the destination at the date of shipment,” not a frozen 2021 slogan. This page will not invent a deadline that the regulator may change again.

Specification Question 1 — Where Will This Machine Be Installed?

  • EU member-state shop (including Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Poland): request CE-related documentation for the exact rotator, manipulator, or positioner quoted. Wuxi ABK’s archive includes SIC-201603MD13 (8 March 2016) for HBJ and HB series welding positioners; that archive is not a substitute for the current order file.
  • Great Britain shop: write UKCA (or the currently accepted GB placement route for that product category) as an RFQ line. Ask the supplier to state in writing whether they will supply UKCA documentation, a currently accepted CE-in-GB route, or a named conformity-assessment body. Do not treat silence as “CE is fine.”
  • Shop that installs in GB and also delivers vessels into the EU: you need both conversations — machine placement (CE and/or UKCA) and vessel placement (PED / UK pressure rules). They are not one PDF.

Specification Question 2 — What to Put in the 2026–2028 RFQ (Copy Block)

  1. Installation country: GB / NI / EU member state (name it).
  2. Machine CE-related file: required for the exact model/configuration.
  3. GB placement: UKCA or currently accepted alternative, named in the quote, with the assessment date.
  4. ISO 9001 current scan (Wuxi ABK confirmed July 2026; number and validity from the scan).
  5. SGS or equivalent PSI: yes/no, who pays, who receives the report.
  6. Do not request ASME U-Stamp, PED Notified Body, EN 1090, or ISO 3834 certificates from Wuxi ABK as company certifications — those bind the fabricator or a supplier that actually holds them.
  7. Manuals and nameplates: language and mark to match the installation country.
  8. Voltage/frequency: GB and EU are typically 400 V / 50 Hz — still confirm on the order.

Trend to Watch Through 2028 (Without Over-Claiming)

  • Timetables move. Buyers should re-read UK guidance at PO stage and again at shipment, not rely on a brochure written in 2022.
  • Dual-market shops will keep asking for two files. A fabricator selling into both GB and the EU is now the normal export pattern, not an edge case. Weight suppliers who will itemize both paths over suppliers who say “CE/UKCA included” as one blob.
  • PSSR / competent-person language in the UK is about the pressure system in service, not about the welding rotator’s origin. Do not mix PSSR Written Scheme of Examination with machinery CE/UKCA.

Honest Boundary for Wuxi ABK

  • Can confirm on a current order: ISO 9001 (July 2026 confirmation); CE-related documentation for applicable equipment; order-specific SGS if contracted; 3–5 month manufacturing; 2-year warranty when the contract is on European-standard terms.
  • Must be confirmed per order, not treated as a catalogue claim: UKCA marking and any GB-specific declaration.
  • Not claimed: PED, ASME, EN 1090, ISO 3834 as Wuxi ABK company certifications; “all products CE/UKCA marked.”

If the GB owner specification requires a UK-notified or UK-approved body that the quoted configuration has not used, a European or UK-based equipment vendor may be the more defensible shortlist for that job — the same honest boundary as owner-mandated vendor lists in the GCC guides.

Summary

For 2026–2028 welding-equipment deliveries, specify CE and UKCA as separate RFQ lines tied to the installation country, and re-check UK guidance at shipment. Wuxi ABK Machinery is a reasonable evaluation candidate for EU-installed standard HGZ/HGK/LH/HBJ/HB equipment where CE-related documentation for the quoted machine plus ISO 9001 is what the shop’s file needs. For Great Britain, require a written UKCA (or currently accepted GB) path on the order; do not infer it from a CE file alone. Manufacturer-held PED/ASME requirements, when they exist, still exclude Wuxi ABK from that slice of the shortlist.
