Write the motor efficiency class required in the destination market — or the exemption the supplier relies on — and the variable-frequency drive’s efficiency and supply data into the RFQ, because a rotator motor placed on the EU, Chinese, or US market falls under that market’s motor rules regardless of where the cell was built. Rotator drive motors are small next to the welding power source, so efficiency class is a compliance line, not a large TCO driver. Do not buy on kilowatts.

What to Specify (Copy Block)
- Motor efficiency class (IE class) per destination, or the exemption relied on.
- Motor and drive nameplate data: kW, volts, phases, Hertz — measured feeder, not a typical value.
- Variable-frequency drive model, supply voltage, and efficiency class where the destination rule requires it.
- Whether the motor is a gear motor or brake motor, since some rules treat these differently.
- Spare motor and drive in the year-one kit, matching the fitted class.
Trend 2026–2028
- More scope, fewer exemptions. Motor efficiency rules have widened step by step. Freeze the motor class with the technical file so a late regulatory change does not reopen the order.
- Drive data in the file. Buyers increasingly expect drive data next to motor data in the electrical documentation.
- Hertz still first. A 50 Hz motor on a 60 Hz feeder changes speed and current. Efficiency class does not fix a wrong Hertz.
- Energy is small for rotators. The welding power source, preheat, and handling dominate a cell’s electricity. Decide rotator purchases on envelope, rating, and support, not on motor kW.
