If a welding rotator cell placed on the EU market has a data connection — an Ethernet HMI, remote-service gateway, or fieldbus link to plant systems — ask the supplier how it meets the EU Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847), whose main obligations apply from 11 December 2027; a cell with only hard-wired pendant controls and no data interface raises far fewer questions. Write the network interfaces, remote-access method, and software-update policy into the freeze pack now, because cells frozen in 2026 may be delivered after that date.

Trend 2026–2028
- Simple can be an advantage. For many rotator jobs, hard-wired controls with no external data link meet the shop’s needs and keep the compliance file short. Add connectivity only when it has a use.
- Remote service under control. Plants increasingly require remote access to be physically switched by site staff and logged.
- Plant OT rules. Many owners already apply IEC 62443-based rules to anything on the plant network. Ask early whether the cell will join that network.
- Outside the EU. The Cyber Resilience Act is an EU rule. Other markets have their own approaches; the same interface list is still a useful RFQ block.
